How can I identify cyberbullying?

It is sometimes difficult for adults (teachers, youth workers and parents) to identify when a child is a victim of cyberbullying. We can give you an important recommendation: be attentive and speak openly with the victim if you have suspicions.

А warning sign for teachers can be when the climate in the class gets worse or friendships fall apart unexpectedly. Quite often, formerly close people become perpetrators, for instance because of a quarrel. They know many intimate details about the victim, have photos or video of the victim and can spread them anonymously with a specific purpose. The isolation of separate students can also be evidence of cyberbullying. Here, together with the impacts that have been mentioned, you should be pay attention to the following signs:

  • Withdrawal (inwardly and outwardly)
  • Performance degradation
  • Concentration problems
  • Sleeping disorders
  • Avoidance behavior
  • Isolation: exclusion during breaks, while working in groups or playing sports
  • Evasiveness when problems in the class are being discussed
  • Absences and even absenteeism
