Zur Projektidee

Every year more than 3.7 million children are born in Europe, who are growing into a tightly encircled media world whose development which entails an unstoppable media imprint. One of these dangers, which has increasingly become the focus of public attention in recent years, is Cybermobbing sexting, posing, grooming - A new form of mobbing, which is carried out via new media such as e-mail, instant messages, chatrooms or mobile phones and reaches the children's rooms. That traditional mobbing is especially perfidious because: the victims have no chance to escape, because the perpetrators come to the children´s room. The result: victims of cybermobbing can no longer escape, find no shelter. This is also known by the European Parliament and calls on the Commission and the Member States in November 2012, "To protect children in the digital world, exploit all possibilities and bring them together through systematic training of all young people from the youth field".

The project "Look - cybermobbing, sexting, posing, grooming in the everyday life of youth social work" deals with this phenomenon, which becomes a problem with the increased use of media, particularly among young people who are socially disadvantaged. Young people often spend their leisure time in community centers, youth clubs, youth cafes, day-care centers, but also in public libraries, sports clubs and other facilities, where they seek support and advice, and often use the Internet with their peers. Your contact persons overthere are social workers who are familiar with real life-world topics. The virtual life of the youth, with all its challenges, dangers and fascinations, is left behind by the specialists of social work. Why?

There ist a lack of the competences they need to adequately counteract these virtual dimensions and dangers. They have not grown up with these forms of application and have not been provided for in the curricula for social pedagogy. We will conclude this educational gap with "Look" and create a passable offer for social work which will be implemented with the following double strategy:

  1. Prevention / knowledge transfer in the use of digital media through online learning units
  2. Intervention and early detection by illustrative case studies with guidance guides
  3. Active inclusion of policy to create sustainable conditions for the protection of children in the digital world.
